PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE and PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS with FOR and SINCE

Present perfect continuous: have/has + been + verb in -ing I have been palying tennis for two hours

Look at these questions:

How long have you been studying Spanish?
How long have you known Lisa?
How long have you been working in this company?
How long has he had this computer?


Present Perfect Continuous is used to express an activity which began in the past and continues to the present

Ex: We have been waiting here for hours
It has been raining for days!

Sometimes there is little or no difference in meaning between the Present Perfect Simple and Preset Perfect continuous

EX: How long have you worked here?
How long have you been working here?

Verbs that have the idea of a long time (or with dymanic meaning, or action verbs) : for example work, learn, travel, play, wait, study,ecc. These verbs can be found in the Present perfect continuous
Verbs that don't have the idea of a long time (or with stative meaning): find, start, stop, buy, lose, break. These verbs cannot be found int the Present perfect continuous
Verbs that express a state are not found in the PPC: like, love, hate, know, have (possession), want, believe, understand, hear, feel,
