Use and @buse of the Internet
Since the early 1990s the Internet has changed our lives significantly because it has proved to be the fastest and cheapest way to communicate with over 900 million people in more than 100 countries all over the world, find and share information and images of all types selected from an online database. By the beginning of the new century it has become the printing press of the technology era. Whether in homes, business, schools, computers are potentially more powerful than ever because they can be linked to virtually any source of stored information through modems converting data, like photos and text into electronic signs and as many as 10 million World Wide Web pages appear on the home computer screen.
Now people produce and consume in a single networked global system and increasingly have access to the same movies, home videos, data, music, ideas, goods and, unfortunately, pornographic material as well, in particular information on child- prostitution networks. With the intrenet the pornography appears instantly: in a short time you have the photos you want; moreover, pedophiles can exchange names and addresses freely, taking advantage of the absence of specific laws on the matter. Cyberspace is a popular passage for this kind of materials because it is difficult to detect. Internet usage will certainly grow every year: the Internet will be even more central to everything we are doing. Soon there will be more Net-enabled phones, TV sets and cars, but punishment for abusers and protection for vulnerable categories like children will have to be enforced even sooner.
